2026 Outstanding Assistant Principal

The Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association announced Kysha Crenshaw as the 2026 MEMSPA Assistant Principal of the Year. Kysha is the Assistant Principal of Winans Elementary in Waverly Community Schools.

Kysha was also recognized at the national level by the National Association of Elementary School Principals at the 2026 National School Leaders Conference in Orlando.

Kysha has dedicated more than two decades to Winans Elementary, where she is known for her reflective leadership, commitment to staff growth, and deep connection to students and families. She began her career at Winans as a student teacher in 2000 and returned in 2005 after teaching in Lansing schools, eventually serving as a kindergarten, first- and second-grade teacher, instructional coach, and now assistant principal.

Her impact extends well beyond the school building. Kysha has helped launch a school store, support a mentorship program for boys, and create a calming room for students through partnerships with community organizations. Her leadership reflects the power of strong relationships, community collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to student success.
