“WORTH-IT” LEARNING LEADERSHIP PRACTICES

A Series of Eight Virtual Professional Modules

These online modules, based on alignment to the nationally validated evaluation and professional learning Framework for Teaching Cluster Rubrics, Indicators, and Considerations, integrate the “what” of instructional best practice, the “why” of John Hattie’s Visible Learning and other high quality research, and the “how” for knowing and growing deep teaching practice in order to maximize student learning!  Each Learning Leadership module provides the participants with powerful individual and collaborative learning and an aligned toolkit full of strategies, templates and resources that educational leaders, that include teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators, can put into action for IMMEDIATE impact!


Module #1: Maximizing Learning Leadership for Educator  Effectiveness using The Framework for Teaching 

Date: September 22nd, 2020 from 4:30-6:00pm/est (plus pre/post learning)

Charlotte Danielson’s latest research, Teaching to the Core, has led to the development of six Framework Focus Areas of Teaching for Student Learning.  Through this session you’ll gain resources and practical strategies for collecting data and generating meaningful conversations around these targeted components to support your current teacher evaluation process and increase high impact teaching.  

  • Discover how leaders can utilize the step-by-step PLAN~TEACH~REFLECT~APPLY process with The Framework for Teaching focus areas to improve professional practice
  • Learn practical applications for the Framework for Teaching focus areas in teacher evaluation, guiding collaborative teaching teams and school improvement initiatives
  • Explore easy-to-use rubrics and aligned resources for each focus area to support educator effectiveness!

Module #2: Maximizing Learning Leadership for Educator Effectiveness in Learning ENVIRONMENT and EMPOWERMENT (Domain 2 – Classroom Management) 

Date: October 6th, 2020 from 4:30-6:00pm/est (plus pre/post learning)

Charlotte Danielson’s Domain 2: Learning Environment focuses on the foundational teaching/student learning priorities that lead to caring and respectful environments, intellectual challenge, student-owned routines and procedures to support collective learning responsibility among students. Through this session you’ll gain resources and practical approaches for collecting walk-through and unannounced observation data as well as how to generate 10-minute conversations that matter for both teacher evaluation and increased procedural learning impact.  

 

  • Connect to Domain 2 focused on Learning ENVIRONMENT and EMPOWERMENT 
  • Learn how to support teachers in creating and sustaining a safe learning environment that nurtures students’ confidence and commitment
  • Develop professional learning conversation skills that create capacity for teachers through a 3-2-1 Collaborative Learning Log
  • Personalize Domain 2 Professional Practice resources for your own instructional leadership process and needs

Module #3: Maximizing Learning Leadership for Teaching Clarity (Domain 1: Planning & Preparation) 

Date: November 10th, 2020 from 4:30-6:00pm/est (plus pre/post learning)

Charlotte Danielson’s Domain 1 focuses on the foundational instructional priorities that use non-negotiable learning outcomes and success criteria to engage students in the “what and why” of essential learning.  Through this session you’ll learn how to use the Big 5 for collecting Domain 1 data and supporting teacher-owed planning conversations for both teacher evaluation and learning impact.

 

  • Connect to Domain 1 focused on Teaching Clarity 
  • Learn how to support teachers in using the Big 5 Priorities of Designing and Delivering high impact instruction
  • Develop conversation skills to support teacher-owned planning conversations

Module #4: Maximizing Learning Leadership for Educator Effectiveness in Learning ENGAGEMENT (Domain 3: Part 1 – Instruction) 

Date: December 10th, 2020 from 4:30-6:00pm/est (plus pre/post learning)

Charlotte Danielson’s Domain 3 focuses on the “heart of the instructional framework” through the design-delivery of gradual release to support important learning.  Through this session you’ll gain resources and practical strategies for collecting data and generating meaningful reflection conversations around targeted Domain 3 components for both teacher evaluation and ongoing instructional leadership.  

 

  • Connect to Domain 3 components focused on Learning ENGAGEMENT  
  • Learn how to guide implementation of an instructional gradual release approach for enhanced student learning
  • Engage in different data-collection approaches for observing and supporting professional learning and growth

Charlotte Danielson’s Domain 3 also focuses on the art and science of measuring successful learning through formative assessment, feedback to students, as well analysis and reflection on instructional impact.  Through this session you’ll gain resources and practical strategies for collecting data and generating meaningful reflective conversations around targeted components for both teacher evaluation and ongoing instructional leadership.  

 

  • Connect to Domain 3 components focused on Learning EVALUATION 
  • Learn how to weave a focus on formative assessment strategies (success criteria, feedback, collaborative learning and self-monitoring) into your professional conversations
  • Engage in additional data-collection approaches for observing and supporting professional learning and growth
  • Develop conversation skills focused on student work samples and artifacts of learning
  • Personalize these Professional Practice resources for your own instructional leadership process and needs

Date: February 9th, 2021 from 4:30-6:00pm/est (plus pre/post learning)

Much of The Framework for Teaching Domain 4 focuses on supporting professionalism through facilitation of data-driven goal-setting, collaboration, continuous professional learning, reflection and growth.  Through this session you’ll gain resources and practical strategies for generating meaningful reflective conversations and targeted artifacts of practice focused on Domain 4 for both teacher evaluation and ongoing instructional leadership.  

 

  • Connect to Domain 4 components focused on Individual and Collective Teaching EFFICACY  
  • Learn how to facilitate practices that foster trust, commitment, and collaborative practices between the Leader and individuals as well as among colleagues 
  • Engage in designing high-impact people, task and process practices to increase collaborative learning
  • Apply conversation skills to maximize individual and team facilitation of the professional learning process

Module #7: Maximizing Learning Leadership for Educator Effectiveness When Using Student Learning Objectives as a Guide of Teaching Impact 

Date: March 9th, 2021 from 4:30-6:00pm/est (plus pre/post learning)

Supporting teachers as they implement the Student Growth part of the teacher evaluation process can be overwhelming and often disconnected from school/district student learning priorities.  Through this session you’ll gain resources and practical strategies for facilitating the development of Student Learning Objectives that align to The Framework for Teaching priorities

 

  • Engage in analyzing sample SLOs to be able to determine strengths and limitations of the projected learning growth and link to student learning impact
  • Experience a step-by-step protocol for conducting Calibration Conversations in order to maximize teaching growth and student-learning success for SLO Conferences and beyond
  • Personalize SLO-Focused Professional Practice resources for your own teacher leadership process and needs

Module #8: Differentiated Summative Conversations: How to Talk about What Is Important in Our Professional Practice

Date: April 13th, 2021 from 4:30-6:00pm/est (plus pre/post learning)

This session provides participants with the knowledge and skills to have differentiated conversations that impact learning with less stress and more success.

  • Focus on “what we know” and “what we need to learn” in order to improve the chances of having conversation turn out productively.
  • Learn how to personalize conversations through the 3 BIG Skills of Critical Conversations: Listening, Thinking, and Responding.
  • Apply professional conversation skills and strategies within a structured protocol of practice

Trainer: Dr. Pamela Rosa

Dr. Pamela Rosa, as the president of Rosa Educational Consulting, provides a wide range of intellectually engaging AND high-energy teaching, mentoring-coaching, and leadership learning opportunities. Pam has served as an award-winning principal, district curriculum and professional development coordinator, state school improvement consultant, director of early learning center, and a teacher/instructional coach at all grade levels. Pam’s current action research efforts focus on validation of The Framework for Teaching in early learning grades (PreK-3rd Grade) and development of the online, early learning professional resource, PK3TeachLeadGrow.org, in partnership with Dr. Lisa Hood from The Center for the Study of Educational Policy at Illinois State University.
