Foundations of Number Sense

Feeling overwhelmed with all of the different ways to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems in the 21st century? Why can’t we just do it the way we learned, with one answer and only one way to find it? Join Shannon to transform the way you think about solving algorithms and help your students to explain their thinking in multiple ways. Participants will create a toolkit of strategies to help implement various means of solving problems     (3 ways plus the traditional, with concrete-pictorial-abstract means) in your classroom tomorrow!

Model Drawings

Discover the power of model drawing–a step-by-step method of translating a word problem into a diagram or model. This visual model makes it easy for students to understand the relationships in given information and to successfully solve the problem. These problem-solving techniques are ideal for supplementing existing core curricula and for use in pull out programs, both intervention and gifted.

Performance Tasks: What Common Core Success Looks Like Every Day

What’s all the buzz about implementing Performance Tasks into Math instruction to meet the rigor of CCSS? Performance tasks provide students real-life situations in which to apply their Math knowledge. Integrating performance tasks into your Math instruction isn’t as daunting as you may think. Learn performance tasks that can be used right away, while integrating cross-curricular components into each task. You will walk away with not only a new-found knowledge, but also an in-depth understanding of how to assess students’ achievement in understanding, reasoning, and communicating their Math knowledge.
