Dear MEMSPA Members,

Allyson Apsey and I have been excited to connect with our MEMSPA Leaders through our #WeLeadMI campaign last school year. We are continuing our work to support our principals across the state in our role as State and Federal Relations Co-Coordinators. We have heard first hand from legislators in Lansing and Washington, D.C. how your emails, texts, tweets, and phone calls matter!

However, we NEED you now more than ever! PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR MEMSPA SPRING LOBBY DAY ON NOVEMBER 5TH IN LANSING! There are so many things happening right now and we need our voices heard with some of our important legislative priorities:

  • 3rd Grade Reading Bill – Eliminating Retention
  • Teacher Evaluation
  • SEL Funding
  • Early Childhood Support
  • Teacher/Substitute Shortage
  • Chronic Absenteeism

This is your time to jump in! We have lots of built-in support–you are provided talking points, the appointments with your legislators are arranged for you, and you can even request to go on your first appointment with a partner. Veteran lobbyists, we need you too! It is important to continue building upon the relationships we have established and to lead the way for the new principals joining us. OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE EVERY REGION REPRESENTED.

It is time to continue the #WeLeadMI movement and step up to make sure our student and staff voices are heard in Lansing! If you are able to join us for our lobbying day, please email Taryn Hurley at taryn@memspa.org by October 23. When emailing her, please let her know the names of your State Senator and Representative. You can find your Representative at https://www.house.mi.gov/mhrpublic/frmFindaRep.aspx and your Senator at http://www.senate.michigan.gov/fysbyaddress.html
