Making the Teacher Evaluation Process “Worth-It” through Student-focused Observations and Conversations

Session Description: Supporting teachers in using teaching and student-learning “in action” data to grow professional practice is the most challenging AND important job that an instructional leader has. Learn how to “cluster” the Framework for Teaching Components for the BIG 5 of teaching clarity in planning conversations, observations focused on procedural and intellectual engagement, and asset-based reflection conversations.  Build your learning leadership toolkit so that it includes skills and strategies for making the evaluation process “worth-it” for all stakeholders…especially our students.

Learning Purpose for Student-Focused Observations and Conversations:

  • Learn how to embed student learning “look-n-listen for’s” into the Plan-Teach-Reflect-Apply teaching evaluation process using Framework for Teaching cluster priorities
  • Experience step-by-step protocols for conducting a focused observation, analyzing teaching and student learning data, and engaging in student-focused planning and reflection conversations
  • Gain tips and tools to personalize your own teacher evaluation process to ensure that it is “worth-it” for maximizing teaching growth and student-learning success

Essential Leadership Question: How do I give critical feedback to address challenging issues or accelerate focus on student learning and professional growth?
