From the President - I hope that everyone is rested from the winter break and ready to tackle what lies before us. For me January is the month I seem to get into the weather business. Daily principals get questions from staff. Is it too cold to send the children outside for recess? Are we aware of the wind chill factor?

The Reading Principal - Bill Rich, MEMSPA Past President, will share his love of reading to students with MEMSPA members in a regular article titled, The Reading Principal.  In each article, Bill will share a favorite book that has been “field tested” with elementary students.

Planning for the Worst, but Hoping for the Best - You never know if your home will ever be threatened by fire, weather, or other disasters.  And who knows if you’ll ever be separated from your children in a crowd?  To be prepared, it’s vital that you can your children know exactly what to do in emergency situations and have the plans in place to react quickly and calmly is something serious happens. Principals' Week - Governor Granholm has problaimed that the week of February 10, 2008 shall be Principals' Week in Michigan.

Under the Dome - Here we are, the close of another year.  I have been on staff with MEMSPA for six months now and it certainly has been a great six months so far.  We’ve seen great legislative victories and a few defeats.  We experienced a state government shut down and came out of that with a revenue solution for schools that sets our education system on somewhat more stable financial footing.
